National Jelly Bean Day

national jelly beans day

Today, Aprill 22nd is and always will be national jelly bean day.  A day to enjoy the the chewy sticky treats kids of all ages love to munch.  Jelly beans date back  the 1860's, but no one really knows their true origins.  It is believed  that they are descendents of Turkish Delight (have you ever had this?).  The Jelly Belly company revolutionized jelly beans with gourmet flavors starting in 1976 with 8 new flavors - Very Cherry, Lemon, Cream Soda, Tangerine, Green Apple, Root Beer, Grape and Licorice. With the help of Ronald Reagan who was known for his love of Jelly Beans, they have risen to the top.  Jelly Belly beans were the first jelly beans to go to space with the Challenger Shuttle.  Today, Jelly Belly is the world's #1 gourmet jelly bean, the bean of choice for all those with the most discerning taste, and made in 50 amazing and tasty flavors.

Remember when Jelly Belly became kosher?  (they are currently certified by the OU) Have you ever played the guess the jelly bean flavor game? Or created your own flavor by combining two jelly beans and eating them at once? There's so much fun you can have with Jelly beans and they make beautiful decorations in glass jars too.

Last week we learned about the health of beans, these are not the kind of beans we were talking about and your dentist won't be happy about this holiday.  However, since moderation is the key go ahead and celebrate one bean at a time.
