Breadmachine Challah

I used to make this in the bread machine, until it broke, now I make it in the food pocessor or stand mixer with wonderful results, so versatile.

  • Prep Time
  • 2 ServingsServings

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 11/2 tsp. salt
  • 31/2 cup bread flour
  • 11/2 tsp. yeast

1 Put all ingredients in bread machine in the order listed.
2 Choose dough setting, when it is done, roll out dough into three ropes, and braid to make a traditional challah.
3 Let rise 60 minutes. Preheat oven to 350.
4 Brush challahs with egg wash and bake 30 minutes.

Notes: Check the machine during the process to make sure it does not need more flour.  Touch it and if it is too sticky, add more flour.   If you don't have a bread machine, it works great in a food processor or stand mixer too.  Begin by heating the water to about 100 degrees.  Add to it a tsp. of sugar and the year and allow to proof 5 minutes.  At that point you can add everything else to the machine.  Each rise will take about 60-90 minutes in a warm environment.  In the summer I use my garage, in the winter, I warm up my oven to about 100, then turn it off. While the dough is rising, you should have it covered with a tea towel.
