In 2 cup measuring cup, combine water with yeast and sugar. Allow to sit 5 minutes.
In large bowl combine flour and salt. Add egg, vegan butter and orange juice to the yeast mixture.
Pour liquid into dry ingredients and mix, adding flour if necessary. Knead dough for a few minutes. Add orange peel and dates and continue to knead until incorporated.
Place dough in oiled and floured ziplock bag and allow to rise in a warm place (I put it in the microwave) for about 1 1/2 hours.
Punch dough down, then shape as desired and place on greased baking sheet. Allow to rise 45minutes to 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 375F. Lightly beat egg yolk and water. Brush over loaf. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a deep golden brown and hollow sound when tapped.
If it is browning too quickly cover with foil. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
