In a large sauté pan, heat evoo on medium. Sauté the onion until translucent. Add garlic and stir.
Stir in the tomato sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, stir, and reduce to a simmer. Cook until thickened, about 20 minutes.
On a well-floured surface, roll out the pizza dough. Smear a generous amount of tomato sauce on the pizza dough.
Bake for 7 minutes. Add the mozzarella pieces and bake for another 5 minutes. The pizza is ready when the edges are slightly charred and the cheese is bubbling. Add basil leaves immediately. Serve hot.
