Grandma’s Texas Sheet Cake (1980)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 .5 sticks butter
  • 4 Tbls cocoa
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 stick butter for icing
  • 1 box powdered sugar for icing
  • 6 Tbls buttermilk

Preparation

  • 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.2 Sift sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt into a bowl. 3 Melt butter, cocoa, and water, and bring to a rapid boil. Pour over dry ingredients. 4 Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. 5 Bake in cookie sheet pan with tall edges for 15-20 minutes. 6 For icing, melt butter on stove and add cocoa and buttermilk. Bring to a boil and pour over powdered sugar. Mix well. Add pinch salt and 1 tsp vanilla. Spread over cake while cake and icing are hot. 7 Let rest and serve.
