Homemade Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 3 Granny Smith apples n peeled, cored and cut into chunks
  • 3 Honey Crisp or Golden Delicious apples peeled, cored and cut into chunks
  • ½ cup apple cider
  • ¾ cup granulated white sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ⅛ teaspoon grated nutmeg

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and the mixture has cooked to a thick sauce consistency with some chunks remaining.
  • Cool the applesauce completely and discard the cinnamon stick. The applesauce can be stored, covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 2 months.
