Homemade Applesauce
Homemade applesauce is easy to make and so much better than store bought. I like to have small containers of the homemade condiment in my freezer for healthy snacks, quick latke toppings and as an addition to home-baked goods.

Ingredients
- 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
- 3 Honey Crisp or Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
- ½ cup apple cider
- ¾ cup granulated white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cinnamon stick
- ⅛ teaspoon grated nutmeg
Preparation
1. Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and the mixture has cooked to a thick sauce consistency with some chunks remaining.
3. Cool the applesauce completely and discard the cinnamon stick. The applesauce can be stored, covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 2 months.
