Homemade hot cocoa is not much more work than using a mix, but it is so much more flavorful. This version adds in some citrus flavoring using the zest of oranges and orange liqueur.

Citrus Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
- Zest of two oranges
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cup 2% or whole milk
- 2 ounce bittersweet chocolate chopped
- 2 tablespoon orange liqueur or 2 teaspoons orange extract
- 1 orange sliced into eight rounds, for serving
Instructions
- Combine orange zest and sugar in the bowl of a food processor and process for about 2 minutes. Place the “orange sugar” in a large saucepan with milk and bring to a simmer over medium low heat. Add chocolate and orange liqueur, whisking until smooth. Strain the chocolate through a sieve and serve into mugs, topping with a slice of orange.
