There is nothing wrong with kugel, in fact, we have almost 30 kugel recipes on this site. I just thought some of you would be looking for new side dish recipes. We all know kugels can be made ahead and reheat well and are staples in most Ashkenazi homes on Shabbat. In addition to your new and old kugel recipes, we need more sides with grains or vegetables and lots of flavor.
Check out 13 sides you can make for Shabbat that are not kugels.

My favorite Shabbat side is low-and-slow cooked beans with veggies.
I love my good old potato kugel and a nice simple salad!
Sweet Kugel is my favorite.
Baby bella mushroom souffle – YUM!!!!!
Definitely apple crisp- I love sweet side with my savory dish. No need for dessert after .
I love Pioneer Woman’s pasta salad…. so good. I use rotini pasta instead of elbow. Easy to make ahead of time and just pull out of the fridge when ready.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Nish Nosh Salad
I make a rice side dish that I first encountered as part of a meal I received from a friend after delivering my daughter. It consists of basmati rice, yellow and green onions and craisins.
Impossible to choose just one! I do love including several wonderful & different salads.
Roasted winter squash with sea salt.
Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Garlic Mashed potatoes
Favorite side would have to be a veggie, even in kugel form. I need something to balance the refined carb heavy sides.
roasted mushrooms
My favorite side dish is raspberry crumble: this is similar to the recipe I use, but I substitute oil for butter and it still comes out great. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/apple-raspberry-crumble-with-oat-walnut-topping-recipe.html
I love this idea, I am going to make it this week – thanks for sharing.
