Tals Cholent (chulent)

This is our variation on a friends chulent recipe, handed down to him from his father...the way all good chulent recipes are created.

  • 1 medium sized onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. paprika
  • 2-3 potatoes chopped
  • 1 3/4 cup chulent bean mix (soaked over night)
  • 1/4 cup baby lima beans
  • 1/4 cup barley
  • 1/2 lb package of large chunk fatty beef on or off bone
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. marinara sauce
  • 3 tbsp. bbq sauce of choice
  • 1 black and tan beer, or dark beer of your choice
  • splash of hot sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce


1 use a oven bag liner in your pot. spray liner and inside of pot with pam before inserting liner

2 add onion, olive oil and paprika in a bowl and microwave on high for 2.5 minutes with paper towel on top

3 put onion mixture in the crock pot.

4 add ingredients in this order: potatoes, beans, barley beef

5 then add salt, sugar, marinara sauce, bbq sauce, beer, hot sauce, garlic powder and Worcestershire

6 mix everything up

7 add water so that all ingredients are covered, then add an additional half cup of water. DO NOT add water to the top of the pot.

8 put top on pot and put on low
