TURKEY IN A BROWN PAPER BAG

This recipe is actually my husbands. He is in charge of the Thanksgiving turkey and uses a brown paper shopping bag to allow the turkey to self-baste

Ingredients

  • 12-14 lb Fresh Kosher Turkey
  • 4 Tbsp Garlic powder
  • 4 Tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves washed and dried
  • 1 cup fresh rosemary removed from stalk
  • brown paper shopping bag no writing on bag
  • 1 cup of water
  • stuffing of your choice

Instructions

Preparation

  • 1 clean the turkey 2 carefully separate the skin of the turkey from the breast3 mix garlic, paprika and salt in a bowl, with your hands rub the mixture under the skin of the turkey, as well as on top of the skin. Cover well. 4 carefully place basil and rosemary under the skin of the turkey5 place the turkey inside the brown paper bag, breast side up and then place the entire thing in the turkey roasting pan6 stuff the turkey with the stuffing of your choice (I prefer a fig and almond stuffing)7 close the bag by crumpling the paper8 pour the cup of water into the bottom of the pan9 roast at 350, 20 minutes per pound. Check halfway through. If drumstick wiggles freely and juices run clear from the breast remove from oven. 10 Let rest 2o minutes before carving.

    wow this really lightens the load, im always so squared that i will miss a baste and the turkey will dry out
