4 Cups of Israeli Wine for Passover

Oh, what a six months it has been.

Some of the lowest lows our generation has ever known. Some of the highest highs as well, as we all came together, united, as one nation.

Passover, the festival of freedom, is a time for gathering with loved ones, recounting the story of our ancestors’ exodus from Egypt, and indulging in delicious food and wine. As we prepare for this joyous occasion, one of the central rituals is the drinking of four cups of wine during the Seder.

This year, amidst the challenges facing Israel, let’s infuse our Passover celebration with a renewed sense of support for the land and its people. As you prepare to pour one of the four cups of wine at your Seder meal, consider proudly declaring: “Next wine from Jerusalem!” This small gesture not only adds a meaningful touch to your celebration but also shows solidarity with Israel during these difficult times.

Long before grapevines took root in the esteemed wine regions of France and Italy, the land of Israel was already producing wine. Visiting one of the 250 wineries scattered throughout the country offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of tradition intersecting with modern technology. Winemaking in Israel is a delicate dance between art and science, with nature playing a pivotal role. Despite the challenges of dry, hot summers, short wet winters, occasional frost, and cold Negev nights, Israel possesses the potential to emerge as a premier wine-growing destination on the global stage.

For our people, Israeli wines are not just beverages; they are a source of pride and resilience. Despite limited financial support, Israeli winemakers embody the same pioneering spirit that shaped Israel’s journey into modernity. With dedication and perseverance, they have transformed barren land into thriving vineyards, crafting wines of exceptional quality and character. Israeli wines deserve a prominent place at your Seder table and throughout the year. As we celebrate the essence of freedom and our collective hope for redemption, each sip offers a taste of the sacredness of the Promised Land and the vibrancy of our diverse culture.

So what better way to elevate your Passover experience than with these 4 exquisite wines?

  1. Recanati Reserve Petite Sirah: Let’s start with a versatile option that pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of Passover cuisine. Recanati Reserve Petite Sirah boasts a blend of Petite Sirah and Zinfandel grapes, creating an elegant flavor and aroma in shades of berries and chocolate, spices and walnuts. Whether you’re serving brisket, lamb, or roasted vegetables, this medium-bodied red wine is sure to impress your guests and enhance the Seder experience.
  2. Recanati Reserve Chardonnay: Next up, we have a delightful white wine option that’s ideal for those who prefer a lighter, crisper taste. Recanati Chardonnay exudes elegance with its vibrant citrus and stone fruit aromas, balanced by a delicate savory saltiness. Serve it alongside gefilte fish, chicken, or vegetarian dishes for a refreshing palate cleanser that will leave your guests coming back for more.
  3. Recanati Reserve Merlot Manara Vineyard: For those seeking a bold and robust wine to accompany the main course of your Passover feast, look no further than Recanati Reserve Merlot Manara . This full-bodied red wine showcases deep aromas of currant and darker red raspberries. Pair it with hearty dishes like brisket or lamb for a match made in culinary heaven.
  4. Recanati Rosé: Last but certainly not least, we have a delightful option that’s perfect for celebrating the sweetness of freedom and renewal. Recanati Rose is a beautifully balanced wine with notes of strawberry, watermelon, and floral undertones. Its crisp acidity and refreshing finish make it an ideal choice for toasting to new beginnings and cherished traditions during the Passover Seder.

As you prepare to raise your glass and recite the blessings over each of the four cups of wine, consider incorporating these exquisite offerings from Recanati into your Passover celebration. With their impeccable quality and rich flavors, they’re sure to add an extra layer of joy and meaning to your Seder experience. L’chaim!
