Happy Anniversary Hubby! We’re celebrating 19 blissful, picture perfect years!
JK. They haven’t been blissful, nowhere near perfect and he actually hates pictures.
The last, nearly two decades have been filled with a lot of hard work, painful growth, tons of laughter and buckets of tears. (I cry when I’m happy too!)
Let me tell you the story about how I knew he was the ONE.
After 2 weeks of dating I took him to my Rebbetzin, my spiritual and life coach, for her approval. While I got busy hyperventilating into a paper bag, she asked us questions, including challenging us to share what we believed was the most important thing in life.
I can’t even remember what I said, but I do recall (through the sounds of the crunching and expanding bag) that Hubby said something about being in a constant state of growth. Good, I thought, sounds like a keeper.
Then my Rebbetzin gave her answer. “Dveikes,” she said, which means closeness to G-d. In modern Hebrew “devek” means glue. So think of it as sticking to and with G-d. Attaching yourself to Him. It was a good answer.
In an instant, without missing a beat, Hubby reacted, “I want to change my answer.”

He impressed me with his lightning ability to recognize the truth of her answer. That very moment was an opportunity for growth and he wasn’t too proud to reach for it! He proved that he was truly dedicated to growing, improving and refining his character. And most importantly, he proved he was humble– that he didn’t always have to be right, or the best or #1 and was willing to learn and change when truth presents itself.
We got engaged that night.
And have been striving for dveikes ever since.

How did you know your spouse was THE ONE? I wonder. Drop me a line in the comments.
This year we celebrated our commitment to growth and each other at Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem’s THE TERRACE, the most magical, cozy, Mediterranean garden overlooking the city skyline, beneath the cool Jerusalem evening breeze.

And while the ambiance is to-die-for, it’s the menu that’s really the main attraction.

THE TERRACE hosts a gorgeous open-air kitchen featuring dishes designed for sharing. And share we did!
Together we ordered Tempura Cauliflower, Sea Fish Cigars, Kabobs, Sea Bream, Jerusalem Grill, Entrecote Steak, and Lamb Ribs.

There’s nothing like the flavors and aromas of a sophisticated Mediterranean kitchen.
We washed it all down with a pina mocktail for me and a tequila for him. And boy did we have a good laugh when the waiter tried serving us each other’s drinks.
And of course, I always have room for dessert! I took one of everything on the sweet menu which featured basbousa and the chicest chocolate brownie.

I loved celebrating the love of my life with the breathtaking backdrop of Jerusalem, the other love of my life (after my kids, avocados and olive oil!!!!)!
If you want to experience THE TERRACE for yourself this summer, you can make a reservation for the best night out in Jerusalem here.

I always love your stories! I knew my husband was “the one” when he asked if he could pray before he drove me out on our first date. We’ve been very happily married for almost 8 years and like they say – “When you know, you know.”
