I tried every diet.
I knew what I was “supposed” to do.
And still, at one point, I was close to 200 pounds.
What was hardest wasn’t only the weight. It was the shame.
I kept thinking: I’ve accomplished so much in my life. I’ve raised six children. Built a career. Grown spiritually. Worked on my marriage and my relationships.
How could I not get THIS together?
Then Dr. Yardena Bauer said something I needed to hear:
Weight loss is not about willpower.
Dr. Bauer has a PhD in neuroscience and endocrinology, and she has her own deeply personal history with weight. So when we sat down together, neither of us was talking from the cheap seats.
We talked hormones. Insulin resistance. Food noise. Shame. And yes, GLP-1s.
I’ve been on a GLP-1 for 22 months and have lost 40 pounds. And even though I’ve been very public about taking it, I STILL catch myself explaining everything else I’m doing too.
The intermittent fasting.
The protein.
The weight training.
As if I need to explain exactly how I lost the weight.
And that brought up a question I really wanted to explore with Dr. Bauer: Why do we associate successful weight loss with willpower and self-control when there’s so much more happening inside our bodies?
We also get into what GLP-1s actually do, why Dr. Bauer believes they’re going to revolutionize the world, what “food noise” really is, and the work she says still matters alongside them.
And because you KNOW how much I love food, we had to talk about that too.
Here’s something people might not realize: I still love ALL my favorite foods. Challah and mac and cheese included!
Dr. Bauer explains why reducing cravings and food noise doesn’t mean losing the pleasure of eating. And trust me, that was a conversation I was VERY happy to have.
We also talked about what it means to feel healthy, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and why that looks different for everyone.
If you’ve ever struggled with your weight, wondered about GLP-1s, or felt overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice out there, come watch this conversation.
