She Lost 50,000 Followers Overnight. Aija Mayrock Doesn’t Regret It.

Aija Mayrock lost 50,000 followers overnight from ONE Instagram story.

And she doesn’t regret it for a second.

But what I find most fascinating about Aija is that she used to call herself a self-hating Jew. Today, she’s traveling the world looking for Jewish stories most of us have never heard.

From Azerbaijan to Bahrain to Singapore, Aija has gone looking for Jewish history in some pretty unexpected places.

And the stories she has found are incredible.

Like the Muslim man who made a promise to a dying Jewish woman—and is still keeping that promise today.

Or the abandoned Jewish cemetery in Tunisia where Aija spotted a plaque with a name and one word: Auschwitz. That discovery led her to the forgotten story of a Jewish world champion boxer who was forced to fight for his life in the camps.

We also talked about what it means to speak up publicly as a Jew today. About losing followers. About the comment Mohamed Hadid left on one of her videos. And about why Aija believes young Ashkenazi American Jews—people just like her—are the biggest threat facing American Jewry today.

That’s a BIG statement.

So, of course, I had questions.

How did someone who once wanted so little to do with being Jewish end up traveling the world trying to make sure Jewish stories aren’t forgotten?

Come meet Aija.
