You may not have heard of the holiday Tu B’Av (literally the 15th of the Hebrew month of Av), but the Talmud tells us that Tu B’Av was historically considered the greatest holiday of the year, with Yom Kippur a close second (Taanis 26b).
What makes Tu B’Av so incredibly special?
Historically, during the Second Temple Period, Tu B’Av served as a joyous matchmaking day for unmarried women. After centuries of little observance, modern times—especially in the State of Israel—have breathed beautiful new life into the date. Today, Tu B’Av has officially become the “Jewish Day of Love,” a much-needed celebration of romance, unity, and fresh beginnings right when the summer is at its peak.
In honor of the Jewish Day of Love, which begins at sunset on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, we have collected four delicious, heart-filled desserts to gift to your loved ones.
Walnut Cookie Hearts Filled with Fig Jam
