Charoset with Pistachios and Pepper

Various traditions call for different kinds of Haroset at the Pesach Seder. This recipe, using pistachios and pepper, is definitely one of the more interesting charosets around.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dried apricots
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 tart apples peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup shelled pistachio nuts
  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 2/3 cup sweet red Passover wine
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh orange peel
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh ginger or 1 teaspoon ground
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade

Instructions

  • Combine the apricots, dates, raisins, apples, pistachio nuts, almonds, wine, vinegar, orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and marmalade in a bowl, mix and let rest for at least 4 hours before serving. May be made 3 days ahead.
