A summertime variation on the martini, this preparation for the Alberto Martini combines the sweetness of vermouth and the Cointreau and is balanced out by the dryness of the gin and the sherry’s salty assertiveness.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 shots of gin
  • 1 1/4 shots of dry vermouth again, Kedem
  • 1 shot of Tio Pepe fino Sherry they make a kosher Tio Pepe
  • 1/2 shot of Cointreau

Instructions

  • Stir everything together in a shaker with ice (DO NOT follow James Bond’s instructions!), and strain into a chilled martini glass. 
  • The sweetness from the vermouth and the Cointreau balance out the dryness of the gin and the sherry’s salty assertiveness.

    The idea behind each of the cocktails I researched for this article is that they are bright and refreshing but still have some complexity to make things interesting.
