Apple Challah Kugel

My mother made this recipe to use leftover chalah. As we didn't warm anything on Sabbath she serve it room temperature but it can also be warmed.

  • 6 cup old chalah
  • 6 large apples
  • 16 ounce apricot jam
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar


Preheat oven to 350. Remove rind of chalah and soak till soft. Peel core apples and slice.
Squeeze water out of chalah and add to apples. Whisk eggs slightly add seasoning. Add to apple chalah mixture. Add all other ingredients mix well and bake in a 9x12 well greased pan for 1-1 1/2 hrs til nicely browned on top.
My mother used a spring form pan.
