My Mother's Chocolate Chip Cookies

the cookies

Baking chocolate chip cookies with my mother is one of my fondest memories. She never used a mixer. She mixed the dough in an extra large Tupperware bowl with her handy dandy wooden spoon. I loved making the cookies with her.

  • 1½ cup sugar
  • 1- 1lb box light brown sugar
  • 3 cups shortening
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 tsp vanilla
  • 7 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp baking soda
  • 2 bags chocolate chips

Mix first 3 ingredients until smooth. Slowly add the eggs and vanilla, mix until creamy. In separate bowl mix the dry ingredients together and add them slowly to the egg mixture. Mix well- add the chocolate chips.

Place dough on ungreased cookie sheet in preheated 375 degree oven for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Let cool and enjoy with a yummy glass of milk.
