Hi, Rachel!! Hope you and Todd are well. You are definitely missed around here! I am glad you like the recipe, and I hope you will get to enjoy pizza spices here in Israel again sometime soon. But in the meantime, so happy to help you have a happy food memory!
Hi, Sheri. Sour cream substitutes are a challenge for any pareve baker. The most straightforward replacement is soy sour cream or yogurt. Another option is soured pareve milk (use 1 tablespoon lemon juice pluse soy milk or pareve creamer to equal one cup) or a combination of 3/4 soured pareve milk plus 1/3 cup oil for every cup of sour cream. Applesauce is an interesting suggestion – it classically is used as a low-fat replacement for oil, though I am not sure if it will offer the same chemical properties as sour cream. I would love to know how it comes out if you try it.
Hi Dvora,
It’s Judy’s niece, Rachel! We use this every time we have pizza and it reminds us of our year in Israel. 🙂 Hope all is well,
Rachel
Awhile ago I asked what a substitute for sour cream in cake recipes would be I am still waiting for an answer. My daughter in law says apple sauce but not sure of the amount Can you help? Thank you in advance
we make our own pizza at home all the time. it’s a great family activity, and then you get to eat something wonderful. my son always likes to add spices to the piece on his plate to “make it more delicious”. who knew that he was following an Israeli custom!! yasher koach to my son! todah for this bit of information!
Fun idea! Never though of making my own spice mix or sauce.
Sure; while the flavor may be a little less well rounded, it will be a nice addition of herbs and spices.
can i leave out the sugar & salt?
