Apple Crisp
The addition of lemon zest and lemon juice add brightness to the crisp and set it apart from standard apple crisps. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients
Filling:
- 6 apples (mix of Granny Smith and Cortland apples works best)
- 1-2 teaspoons lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ⅛ cup flour
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Crisp:
- ½ cup or 1 stick margarine
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional
Preparation
Filling:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Peel apples and chop.
3. Mix lemon zest, lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla with apples.
4. Place in oven-to-table baking dish or a 9- x 13-inch baking pan or individual ramekins.
Crisp:
1. Mix margarine, brown sugar, white sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the crisp.
2. Top apples with the crisp and bake at 350°F for 25 minutes for individual ramekins or 40 to 45 minutes for a 9- x 13-inch baking dish.
