Arale: The Crepe Brûlée Experience Israelis Are Flocking To

Tucked into a small corner of Shuk Mahane Yehuda on Agripas street, Arale are masters of exactly one thing – filled crepes.

From an American Idea to an Israeli Obsession

The concept for Arale’s creme brulee crepe wasn’t dreamed up in a test kitchen. It was on a trip in the United States that the seed of inspiration first bloomed. Once brought back to the Shuk in Israel, a proprietary recipe was crafted that only two people in the world know to this day. Each ingredient is carefully selected, from the Molino flour to the highest quality dairy for the creme. Nothing is rushed, requiring maximum patience and precision so that Arale’s customers experience the same incredible bite each and every time.

One Item, Mastered

Arale has built its identity around a single idea, executed almost obsessively well. There’s no sprawling menu here, no distractions – just 6 to 7 varieties of crepe, each built around that same signature batter.

Their classic creme brulee crepe is built around a thin Parisian crepe rolled up with creme brulee, crispy cornflakes and either nutella and bananas or mixed berries for a tangy touch. Once rolled up, it’s blasted with a blowtorch to develop that iconic sugar crunch. Arale’s other crepes are no less incredible.

Among them, the Kinder crepe brûlée has become something of a cult favorite, as well as the Dubai chocolate crepe and the burnt marshmallow-pretzel crepe. My personal favorite was the cheesecake crepe, piped with cheesecake cream, cheesecake crumble and berry compote.

It’s this focus – one item, done with total mastery, rather than a menu trying to be everything to everyone – that gives Arale its edge. There’s genuinely nothing else like it. The concept, the format, the way it’s built and presented is entirely its own, and walking around the shuk with one in hand is almost certain to draw hungry stares and questions.

Worth the Drive

It has become the kind of thing minimalist, design-conscious eaters specifically seek out, not because it’s trendy, but because the presentation matches the quality of what’s inside. People aren’t just looking for dessert. They’re looking for a precise experience, and Arale delivers on that with a level of intention that’s hard to fake.

As one regular put it: every city deserves a small branch of Arale. Until that happens, the pilgrimage continues, and the small team working at Arale keeps showing up every day to make sure it’s worth the trip – so that once you get a crepe, you’re hooked. You come back. Then you bring friends. Then those friends drive in from the north just to see what the fuss is about. Simple, beautiful, delicious – that’s what Arale is all about.
