Bananas Flambe

Always use caution when dealing with fire, keep a lid on stand by in case the flames get out of hand, but do enjoy the process and the show. Don’t save this dish to eat in restaurants it couldn’t be easier and tastier. Typically the dish is made with butter, but to keep it parve I used coconut oil and it worked perfectly. The rum flavor really makes this dish pop. It is not the healthiest way to eat bananas, so try it with some low fat yogurt for dessert.

Servings

2 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 bananas sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup dark rum

Instructions

  • Melt the coconut oil over medium heat in a small frying pan. Add brown sugar and stir until smooth or close to it.
  • Turn the heat up to high and add bananas. When the mixture is hot and bubbling, remove pan from heat and pour in the rum, quickly return to heat, tilting a bit to allow the mixture to catch on fire. Continue to shake the pan until the flame dies off. Turn off heat and serve bananas on its own or over vanilla ice cream.

I used brandy because I didn’t have rum and it was just as delicious! 😋

I would keep it warm on a hot plate or something.

Hi, if I wanted to make this for Shabbos, would it need to be served warm or would it be able to be served cold?
