I like to make the rice on the side in the rice cooker, but you could also mix it in, use 1 cup.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 potato small dice
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom ground
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2-3 pieces chicken on the bone
  • 1/2 bag of baby carrots diced
  • 11/2 cups yellow lentils or channa daal
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • water to cover

Instructions

Preparation

  • 1 Combine all ingredients in a crockpot, cover with water.2 Set on low before Shabbat and allow to cook until ready to serve, about 18 hours.

    To cook the raw rice in the plastic bag, which are the proportions of water and rice?

      It should be same as usual – 1 cup rice to 2 cups water but depends a bit on which rice you use.

    my granddaughter has a cholent recipe with rice. The raw rice is place in an ovenproof plastic bag(the kind that you put a turkey in or smaller) with water duck sauce and oil. you seal it and place almost on the bottom of the slow cooker then add all other ingredients. The rice comes out delicious.
