The cheddar or other strong cheese really give it a nice change in flavor, but I agree about blueberries here in Israel, I miss them.
cheddar cheese?! in a sweet kugel?! I made this a lot (without the cheddar which probably wan’t in Israel then)when the kids were young and home. Used up whatever soft cheese/gila was in fridge. It was almost like a cheesecake. I usually added vanilla extract or vanilla sugar to increase sweet taste. I could do it by hand, but kids always wanted the cottage cheese curds smaller or non-visible so I used a milchig hand mixer. A separate dairy food processor? I don’t think so. and anything garnished with strawberries and sour cream – a yummy dish on its own – will taste better! Blueberries, that’s up there with the extra food processor and cheddar cheese.
