Matcha Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a popular Italian layered dessert cake. The name tiramisu literally means “pick-me-up” in Italian, referring to the two caffeine-containing ingredients; coffee and cocoa. The confection was created in the 1960s and since then has been adapted into cakes, ice cream and many other versions.

The classic is delicious and on a hot summer day, there is nothing that will pick you up more than this delicious dessert.

CLASSIC TIRAMISU

It doesn’t get more classic than this. Espresso soaked lady fingers layered in a mascarpone custard and dusted with cocoa and chocolate shavings. You can serve this in a trifle or casserole dish, or create individual servings by layering ingredients in 8 (14-ounce) dessert glasses, verrines, or mason jars.

Indulgent Tiramisu vs Light Tiramisu

There is nothing like the rich indulgent classic tiramisu but it’s okay to go lighter too!  So we gave you both options here.

MATCHA AND WHITE CHOCOLATE TIRAMISU

America, and much of the world, is having a love affair with matcha—a green powdery tea served for millennia during meditative and formal Japanese and Chinese tea ceremonies.

Matcha, with its green, vegetal and slightly sweet flavor pairs well with vanilla and white chocolate. Sencha, matcha’s darker, stronger, and “huskier” flavored cousin, is not a great substitute in this recipe.

CHERRY TIRAMISU

Somewhere between a cheesecake and a trifle lives this version of tiramisu. While this dish may not contain that classic espresso flavor, it is delicious. I prefer to use tart cherries for their pronounced cherry flavor. If you can’t find fresh tart cherries use thawed frozen cherries.

This tiramisu is light, fresh and comes together in minutes. It is also a wonderful make-ahead dessert option and great for all non-bakers looking for an effortless, homemade dessert option.
