Activism as the Antidote: A Walk with Michelle Ahdoot

Sometimes the most powerful conversations are the ones that happen when you least expect them. While I was out in the Rova recently, I had a chance run-in with the radiant Michelle Ahdoot.

Michelle is an Iranian-Jewish activist, a mother, and a powerhouse voice in the fight against Jew-hatred. We grabbed a coffee and took a walk through the Jewish Quarter, and I have to tell you—her perspective on what it means to show up for our people right now is something we all need to hear.

A History That Hits Home

Michelle carries the memory of why her parents had to flee Iran, and that history has shaped her “Ready, set, go!” approach to activism today. We sat down to talk about how the world changed after October 7th and why staying silent was never an option for her.

We dove into some really important topics:

  • The Antidote to Despair: Why taking action—even small, imperfect action—is the best way to turn grief into purpose.
  • The Campus Crisis: What Michelle is seeing on college campuses and how we can support our students.
  • A Wake-Up Call: Why her Iranian heritage makes her so sensitive to the warning signs of antisemitism.
  • The Power of “We”: Why building a community isn’t just a slogan; it’s a lifeline.

Unity from the Rooftop

As we made our way to the rooftop of the Aish World Center, the view of the Kotel reminded us both that we are part of a story that is thousands of years old. Standing there, Michelle shared a prayer for unity that honestly gave me chills. 🕍

It’s so important to remember that activism doesn’t have to be loud or aggressive to be effective. Sometimes, it’s just about being “Quick, Clean, and Flavorful” with our truth—standing tall, staying human, and refusing to let despair take root.

Your Voice Matters

I left this conversation feeling so grounded and quietly strengthened. Michelle reminded me that we are a family, and in a family, everyone has a role to play.

I’d love to hear from you: What is one small way you’ve found to “show up” or help out lately? Let’s share some of that inspiration and light in the comments!
