Greek Yogurt Is For So Much More Than Breakfast

Greek yogurt is hands down one of my ultimate go-to foods. Honestly, my love for it might even qualify as an obsession. I eat it almost every day—straight from the container, blended into a smoothie with frozen fruit for a quick breakfast, packed with granola and fresh fruit for lunch, or whipped into homemade popsicles and tart frozen yogurt. It’s a powerhouse ingredient, packed with calcium, protein, and all sorts of good-for-you nutrients.

But here’s the real magic of yogurt—it’s a fantastic source of probiotics! Just check the label for “live and active cultures.” These “good” bacteria help support digestion and immunity, making yogurt one of those rare foods that’s both delicious and functional.

Now, let’s talk about the real star of the yogurt world—Greek yogurt. Unlike regular yogurt, it’s strained to remove excess liquid, which creates a luxuriously thick texture and a higher concentration of protein. It’s rich, creamy, and seriously versatile. I always go for plain, non-fat Greek yogurt instead of the flavored kinds that are packed with sugar. If I’m craving a little sweetness, I just swirl in some honey, silan, or fresh fruit. And I can cook with it!

Let’s be real—most “healthy” swaps don’t live up to their full-fat, indulgent counterparts. But Greek yogurt? That’s the exception. It’s loaded with protein, potassium, vitamin B, and probiotics, but it also makes an incredible cooking ingredient. Whether you’re whipping up a creamy salad dressing, thickening soups, or making luscious desserts, Greek yogurt is a game-changer.

If you’re looking to lighten up classic recipes, sneak in extra protein, and get more veggies in your meals, Greek yogurt is the way to go. It brings all the creamy goodness with less fat and more nutrients.

Spoiler alert: Greek yogurt is about to be your new secret weapon for making everything from pastas to salads to desserts extra creamy and extra satisfying.

10 Ways to Use Greek Yogurt

  1. Add chopped cucumbers, dill, and a pinch of salt to the yogurt for a quick tzatziki. Slice up some veggies and dip away!
  2. Instead of using milk or sweetened yogurts, toss plain Greek yogurt into your smoothie for a thicker texture.
  3. Try it as an alternative to heavy cream when making Alfredo sauce for pasta.
  4. Mix Greek yogurt with chocolate syrup and—ta-da!—you have an easy fruit dip.
  5. Use as a rich substitute for sour cream. It’s perfect for baked potatoes, burritos, nachos, and so much more.
  6. Stir Greek yogurt into puréed vegetable soup to add toothsome thickness. (Tip: If you added too much spice to, say, a veggie chili, this also helps cut down on some of the heat.)
  7. Use the yogurt in place of mayo in tuna, and egg salad recipes to cut down on SmartPoints™ values.
  8. For a simple but sweet dessert, stir in light jam, raspberries, raisins, cinnamon, and shredded coconut.
  9. Out of ranch? Add spices and a bit of milk to Greek yogurt for a quick, creamy salad dressing.
  10. Reach for Greek yogurt the next time you make pizza dough (seriously!).  It’s that same 2-Ingredient Dough again, this time to make pizza.

Now for actual recipes, here are our favorite ways to use Greek yogurt from the 2-ingredient dough to pesto to cheesecake, let’s go.
